Terms of service

Last updated November 6, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of Somebody. They cover what the platform does, what posters and helpers each owe the other, and how money moves. Please read them before you post or claim a task.

1. What Somebody is

Somebody is a marketplace. People post errands and other people nearby claim them and get them done. We provide the platform, the payment flow and the trust tools. We do not perform errands ourselves.

The person who does a task (a helper) is an independent contractor working for the person who posted it (a poster). Helpers are not our employees, agents or representatives, and nothing here creates a partnership, joint venture or employment relationship. Posters and helpers alone agree how a task is carried out.

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. You need one account, in your own name, with accurate information.

You are responsible for everything that happens through your account and for keeping your login secure. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access to it.

3. Posting a task

Describe what you need clearly and honestly. The amount you enter is what you pay, and it is binding once someone claims the task. The helper sees their exact payout, after our fee and the card fee, before they take it.

You may not post a task that is illegal, unsafe, or on the prohibited list on our Safety & refunds page. We can remove any task, at any time, that we believe breaks these terms.

4. Doing a task

When you claim a task you agree to do it as described, in the time agreed, and to keep the poster informed — including if something goes wrong and you can't finish.

If you can't do a task after all, release it as early as possible so it can go back on the board. Repeatedly claiming tasks you don't complete can cost you access to the platform.

Helpers are responsible for their own taxes, insurance and equipment, and for complying with any licence the work requires.

5. Payment

The amount you enter when you post is exactly what you pay — nothing is added at checkout. Payment is collected through Base44 Payments. We never see or store your card details.

A payment obligation is created when a helper claims your task, at the amount you set. Paying is what puts the money in motion. From that amount we keep a 10% platform fee and deduct the card processing fee; the rest is what the helper is paid, and it is the figure shown on the task.

Helpers are paid out by us after the task is confirmed complete, using the payout details they give us. Payout timing depends on the payment clearing and on any account verification the payment provider requires.

Posters: pay inside the app. If you pay a helper directly, outside the app, we cannot protect the money, cannot help if something goes wrong, and the task may be removed.

6. Cancellations and refunds

If a task is cancelled before the helper has started work, the poster is refunded the amount paid for it. If work has already begun, a refund is at our discretion after we look at what was agreed and what was done.

Refund requests, disputes and charged-but-not-completed claims are handled by our team. Our full policy is on the Safety & refunds page.

7. Profiles, ratings and content

Reviews and ratings run both ways: posters rate helpers and helpers rate posters. Leave honest reviews about the task you were part of. Harassment, discrimination, threats and fake reviews are not allowed.

You keep ownership of what you write. You give us a licence to show it in the app — for example, a review next to the profile it belongs to.

8. Identity verification

We may ask you to verify your identity by sending a photo of a government ID, and sometimes a selfie, for our team to review. Verification is required for helpers and can be required before payouts.

Verification badges mean we checked a document. They are not a background check, a guarantee of good conduct, or a statement that someone is qualified for a particular task.

9. Location sharing

While a task is under way, a helper may share their location so the poster can see progress. Sharing is optional and can be stopped at any time; the poster and our team can see the updates that were shared during that task.

10. Safety is shared

We do not supervise tasks, run criminal background checks, or guarantee anyone's conduct or the quality of any task. Use your judgement: meet in public places where you can, tell someone where you'll be, and don't hand over codes, keys or valuables beyond what the task genuinely needs.

In an emergency, contact the police or emergency services first, then report the task in the app so we can act on the account.

11. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Somebody whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts someone at risk, or is used fraudulently — and we can remove tasks, reviews or access to payouts while we look into it.

12. Disclaimers and liability

Somebody is provided as it is. We don't promise the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we aren't responsible for the acts or omissions of posters or helpers.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim connected with the platform is limited to the service fees we received on your tasks in the six months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost income or opportunity.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

13. Disputes and governing law

Talk to us first — most problems are settled quickly by a person reading the task and the messages. If that doesn't resolve it, these terms are governed by the laws of the state where the operator of Somebody is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the platform changes. If a change is significant, we'll make it clear in the app before it takes effect. Using Somebody after an update means you accept the new version.

Questions about this page go to the operator of Somebody, reachable through the app.
