A marketplace only works if people trust it with real details — an address, a schedule, sometimes a photo of an ID. Here is exactly what we keep, who can see it, and how to get it back or have it removed.
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains what we collect when you use Somebody, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do with it. It covers the website and the app, including tasks, messages, reviews, identity verification and payments.
2. What we collect
Account details: your name, email address, and the login method you choose. If you sign in with Google, Microsoft, Facebook or Apple, we receive the basic profile those services share with us.
Profile and activity: your bio, work area and skills, the tasks you post or claim, the messages you send about a task, reviews you write or receive, and your ratings.
Task details: what you asked for, where it should happen, when, and anything you add to help the helper (such as access notes). These are visible to the other person on the task and to our team.
Identity verification: when you verify your identity we ask for your legal name, the type of document, a photo of your government ID and sometimes a selfie. These files are stored privately and are only opened by our review team.
Location: if a helper chooses to share their location while a task is under way, we store the coordinates and the place name they attach to each update. Sharing stops when they stop it, or when the task is finished.
Payment records: the amount of each task, the service fee, the status of the payment and payout, and who paid whom. Card details are entered on the payment provider's checkout page and never reach us.
Technical data: device and browser information, and server logs that record requests to the app, which we use to keep it working and to investigate abuse.
3. Why we use it
To run the marketplace: showing tasks to people nearby, letting a helper claim one, and letting both sides stay in touch about it.
To move money: charging the poster, keeping the ledger straight, and paying the helper out.
To keep people safe: reviewing identity documents, looking at reports, investigating disputes, and removing accounts that break our terms.
To improve the product: understanding which kinds of errands and which parts of the flow cause trouble.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run advertising trackers inside the app.
4. Who we share it with
The other person on your task: they see your name, your rating and verification badge, the task details, and the messages you send about it.
Our platform and payment providers: Base44 hosts the app and stores the data; Base44 Payments processes card payments and payouts. They handle that data on our behalf under their own terms.
Google Calendar, only if you connect it: a task you schedule is added to your own calendar. We never read your calendar for any other purpose.
Our internal team tools: task events — such as a new task, a claim or a completion — are posted into a private team workspace so a person can respond quickly. Those notices contain the task description and the names involved, not your payment details.
Legal and safety: we may disclose information if the law requires it, if there is a serious risk to someone's safety, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
5. Cookies and local storage
We use what the app needs to work: a session so you stay signed in, and local storage for small preferences. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
6. How long we keep it
Account and task data stays while your account is active, so your history and ratings stay meaningful.
Identity documents are kept while your account is active and reviewed only when needed; ask us to delete them and we will, unless we need to keep a record because of an open investigation or a legal obligation.
Payment and payout records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is typically several years after the transaction.
7. Your choices and rights
You can see and edit your profile details at any time, disconnect Google Calendar from your account page, and stop sharing your location during a task.
You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and the personal data in it. Where the law gives you additional rights — for example, to object to a use of your data — those apply too.
Deleting your account removes your profile and your ability to use the marketplace. We may keep records we are required to keep, and reviews you left may remain in a form that no longer identifies you.
8. Children
Somebody is for adults. You must be at least 18 to use it, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
9. How we protect it
Identity documents are held in private storage rather than on a public link, access to personal data inside the app is limited by our own access rules, and payment details stay with the payment provider. No system is perfect, but we work to keep the data we hold small and the access to it narrow.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version.
Questions about this page go to the operator of Somebody, reachable through the app.
